Employee Requirements
In order to be employed as a Security Guard, you must complete the required training courses as mandated by the Department of State. In order to receive your New York State Security Guard License, you must first take the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment training course for security guards. You will then receive a certificate which will be submitted with your license application to the Department of State. You are required to have your fingerprints taken electronically for your criminal background check. This is done by L-1 Identity Solutions for a fee of $106 (www.l1id.com), 1-877-472-6915. The receipt must accompany the application. You can do this before or after you take our class. In addition, a $36 money order may payable to the state must accompany the application as well. You must also have a photo on file with the DMV.
You may be hired as a Security Guard in New York State while waiting to receive your license.
The second required course for Security Guards is the 16 Hour On-The-Job Training Course. This course must be completed within the first 90 days of employment. Thereafter, an 8 Hour Training Course for Security Guards is required annually.
Employer Requirements
In order to employ Security Guards, you must posses an Employer's Unique Identification Number issued by the Department of State. Without this number, you cannot legally employ Security Guards on your payroll.
